About Eight Engines
Eight Engines are a Creative Video Production Agency based in Manchester. Originally founded to produce TV dramas for the BBC, Eight Engines adapted their business in 2017 to also produce content for clients ranging from huge household names, through to SME’s.
In 2019, Eight Engines enlisted the help of Aqueous Digital to help improve their local SEO in Manchester, increase their online visibility, and win more business through their website.
The challenge
As the ‘Creative Capital’ of the UK, Manchester is a very competitive city for creative businesses, including video production. Because of this, there are a lot of competitors aiming rank for video production related keywords in Manchester. In order to compete with this, we began creating content for lower volume keywords, in order to build up topical authority in the location. Once we had secured these rankings we moved on to more high volume, competitive keywords that would bring in website traffic.
The solution
Website functionality
Following an assessment of the website’s performance, it was identified that their website content management system (SquareSpace) had limitations that impacted on the websites functionality. In particular, this related to how pages were designed and presented to website visitors.
As website user experience is a ranking factor, this had to be addressed to assist the SEO strategy, rather than conflict with it. As a result, with our guidance and advice, a new website was launched on Webflow, a platform which addressed previous functionality issues that SquareSpace presented.
Content
Following in-depth keyword research, we established a content strategy that would focus on answering the questions people are searching for.
By producing high quality content and publishing this to their website on a regular basis, a resource hub was created for Manchester businesses to better understand Eight Engines’ offering.
This allowed Eight Engines to establish topical authority on all things surrounding video production in Manchester. All whilst assisting businesses on what approach they should take when looking to invest in corporate video production.
Outreach and PR
In addition to helpful content for businesses, outreach and PR was essential to building the brand of Eight Engines. In particular, a PR piece was arranged between Prolific North and Creative & Managing Director Jack about the role of AI in video production.
This piece received a lot of traffic and backlinks from other websites, raising the profile of Eight Engines and resulted in Jack being invited to speak at Manchester’s animation festival, bringing further attention to the brand Eight Engines.
Results
Since the launch of the new website in November, Eight Engines have had a 4-fold increase in enquiries.
Eight Engines have highlighted the biggest change they have seen since working on this strategy has been the increase of a steady stream of leads through the website.
The past 12 months has seen website enquiries increase by 176.5%.
They are now ranking No1 on Google for ‘Video Production Manchester’ along with a featured snippet.
In the last 5 years of Eight Engines working with Aqueous Digital, they have had a 420.8% return on investment.
