This week is National Apprenticeship Week 2022, so what better opportunity to chat to Katie, our very own degree apprentice and Aqueous Digital Marketing Assisant.
National Apprenticeship Week is an annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships. The week brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
We’ve asked Katie a few questions so that you can learn more about her role at Aqueous and the degree she is currently studying for:
What is your role at Aqueous?
I’m a Digital Marketing Assistant, which means I work as a full-time member of our tech team, as well as studying towards my degree.
Which apprenticeship and qualifications are you working towards completing?
I’m a Degree Apprentice which means I am working towards a Digital Marketing degree at the same time as my apprenticeship work with Aqueous. After I graduate, I will also be able to apply for professional registration at associate grade to the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing.
Where are you studying your apprenticeship?
I’m studying towards my degree at UCLan – based in Preston
How long will it take to be fully qualified?
I will be able to take my final project at the end of my third year of university. As soon as my project is completed, I can graduate – so any time between 3 and 4 years.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship over a traditional degree?
Marketing is an industry where experience is key. After the last few years of college, I was fed up with being stuck in a classroom just learning the theory of a subject, I wanted to get out and do it for myself. It will be a lot of work, but this route allows me to still get a recognised qualification and I get to put what I’m learning into practice at the same time.
What do you enjoy most about working at Aqueous?
I love how supportive everybody is! I was really nervous about starting as I was only 18 and this was my first ever full-time job, but from the second, I started everyone was so welcoming and has helped me learn so much. In the 6 months I have worked at Aqueous, I have had so much support and help from so many different people, and it has made a huge difference for me!
What are you looking forward to learning about most on your course?
I’m looking forward to learning all about the different areas of digital marketing and then applying them to my work with Aqueous. I’m also really excited about the project I will have to do at the end of the year, as we build on this throughout the 3 year course, so it should be a great opportunity to learn a lot about digital marketing!
